The Academy at the LEARNTEC

I recently had the great pleasure of attending Learntec 2023 in Karlsruhe – an annual meeting place for education enthusiasts from the professional, research and education sectors. As part of the #academyteam, I was able to gain exciting insights and exchange ideas with other experts. But besides the professional discussions, there was so much more to experience!

Learntec 2023 offered a diverse program with forward-looking topics around digital education. One focus was on the use of artificial intelligence. From creating learning content using AI to individualized learning with AI tutors to developing adaptive learning systems – the possibilities are endless. It’s fascinating to see how smart technologies are revolutionizing the education market and waiting to be deployed across the board. Robotic teachers are on the rise!

Microlearning, paradigm shift and accessible content

Another topic of particular relevance is microlearning. In a world where not only time but also cognitive resources are often scarce, it is crucial to grasp complex learning content quickly and effectively. Microlearning allows us to consume information in small, concise bites. No more lengthy learning sessions, but crisp knowledge bites for stressed unicorns in the educational jungle. Just what the modern and fast-paced working world needs.

But that’s not all! A real game-changer in the world of education was also on display at Learntec: the paradigm shift from “push” to “pull” in learning systems. Instead of presenting learners with predetermined content, they now have the option of accessing personalized continuing education content, just like Netflix. This revolution is called LXP (Learning Experience Platform) and opens up a new era of personalized learning. Tailor-made educational morsels!

Another enormously important aspect, which was also discussed at Learntec 2023, is the creation of accessible learning content. It is shocking to observe that with over 6 million people in Germany who cannot read and write properly, most websites are still not designed to be accessible. It is time and absolutely necessary to make educational content accessible to all and ensure that no one is excluded – not even those who suffer from motion sickness #VirutalReality #technoligischeAssistenzsysteme

Technical exchange, old acquaintances and Elliott Masie

But it wasn’t just the technical discussions that were exciting at Learntec. There was also plenty of opportunity for personal exchange and networking. The informal atmosphere ensured that everyone met at eye level. It almost felt like a class reunion, where you see old acquaintances again and make new contacts.

And speaking of making contacts, the culinary highlights of the show were definitely the popcorn and the Barista Coffee Bikes. Fortified with a cup of caffeine, one could exchange ideas with like-minded people in a relaxed atmosphere and philosophize about the latest educational trends. A delicious snack for the mind!

A personal highlight of my Learntec experience was meeting old acquaintances. Robert K., Malte J., Alena O. and Holger H. and Eva-Maria K. – all old companions from past educational adventures – crossed my path and reinforced the class reunion feeling. A great opportunity to reunite and talk shop together.

And then there was Elliott Masie, the rock star of digital education and the namesake of e-learning. His contributions and impulses are not only inspiring and forward-looking, but in most cases also extremely entertaining! A real fan cult surrounded him at the trade fair, and I admit I’m now an absolute fangirl, too.

All in all, Learntec remains an extremely worthwhile event. The professional discussions, the personal encounters and the shared amazement at the latest education trends have broadened my horizons, as always. I am already looking forward to the next Learntec and to experiencing further advances in digital education. Because one thing is clear: In the world of education, there is always room for humor, fun and a pinch of fan culture!

Until the next educational adventure, your Academyteam represented by Pia (& Dominik).
